Blu-ray FAQs
Q: Will the Blu-ray discs we create work in Europe?
A: Yes. They will work worldwide and we have sent discs to Belgium, Germany, and Italy.
Q: Will they play in every player?
A: Complicated answer. If we're talking about BD-R writable discs, then they will play in every player that plays the discs. Please reference Blu-ray's website to see if your player plays these discs. It's about 60-70%. They will work on Playstation 3s and generally all new players.
If we're talking about discs to be replicated, then they will play in the newer generations of Blu-ray players and most of the older players with firmware updates. This is the same as the discs now being put out by most Motion Picture Studios.
Q: Can we design pop-up menus?
A: Yes!
Q: Which codec do we use?
A: We can use any of the three MPEG2, AVC/H.264, or VC-1.
Q: How long will it take?
A: For encoding, figure one to three days depending on how busy we are. For design, depends on how complex. Probably three weeks for a full Blu-ray design job. For replication, three weeks and verification.
Q: Can we make a disc that loops endlessly?
A: Yes and have many times.
Q: How much video can it hold?
A: Up to eight hours depending on the quality settings.
Q: Will compression affect the quality?
A: Yes. The original full resolution file will always be better than even a high-end compression. But we do everything we can to give you the best possible picture and we achieve excellent results.
Q: Can we take any tape format?
A: Yes, for an extra fee. We do however prefer a QuickTime movie in the "Uncompressed 10 bit 4-2-2" codec. Second choice if space and time is a factor, the "Uncompressed 8 bit 4-2-2" codec, "Blackmagic," and "Apple ProRes" codecs are excellent choices.
Q: Can we handle replication?
A: Yes. We have one of the three softwares that can create replicatable masters for Blu-ray Disc.
Q: Are we able to do 3-D Blu-ray Discs?
A: The software for creating 3-D Blu-ray Discs has just recently been released. We are currently starting up with this service. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding this service.
